Databar EAN 8 stand for European Article Number 8 is derived from Databar EAN 13. It is used for small product packaging to identify particular product and its manufacturer.
On tiny objects where a full Databar EAN-13 barcode label would be too large to accommodate; Databar EAN-8 is used. Eight digits make up the number, four on the left and four on the right. Two flag digits on the barcode designate the nation in which it was created. Five data digits follow, with the last digit serving as a checksum. These five data digits serve to briefly identify the product. No additional characters but numbers may be used; they employ the same type of encoding as Databar UPC-A and Databar EAN-13.
