MICR (Magnetic Ink Character Recognition) barcode font is of fixed length that stores 14 characters in it including: the number 0-9 and 4 special symbols - Transit, On-Us, Amount and Dash. It is mainly used for financial purpose by banking industry on cheques and other documents.
Magnetic ink is commonly used to print the MICR numbers, which are normally located on the bottom left corner of a check and include the account number, sort number, and cheque number.
When banks deliver their daily batch of checks to central processing systems, MICR lines aid in the automatic check-clearing procedure. In order to make it simple to transmit check information, they are also made to be read by humans.

Fraud Detection with MICR font
The ability of MICR technology to identify financial scams is its main benefit. In the financial services sector, battling fraud is a never-ending struggle. There are many different sorts of frauds out there, including tax fraud, wire fraud, credit card fraud, securities fraud, and bankruptcy fraud.
By utilising tamper-proof magnetic ink and distinctive typefaces, the magnetic ink character recognition (MICR) line makes some types of financial fraud more challenging. MICR makes it hard to change cheques as a result.
For instance, a fraudster would try to use a teller at a bank branch to cash a cheque that was cloned. The photocopied MICR line quickly informs the teller that the cheque is a forgery.
Designing Procedure:
DRPU Barcode Software provides two designing panels –
1. Barcode Settings
2. Barcode Designing View
Here we are going to design MICR 2D barcode Font using Barcode Designing View (for demonstration).
Click on barcode icon from drawing tools, then double click on inserted barcode to open the following barcode properties window:
➨ Barcode Technologies and Font Type Selection: Select Barcode technology with desired font type and enter value of barcode along with other fields. Set Print Intensity, character spacing and orientation according to your requirement.
➨ Specify Card Shape and Dimension: Go to Card properties, set card shape, card name and size (height and width) and border etc. as per choice.
Your barcode label is now ready to print. Click on print icon and select one of the printing modes Pre Define Label Stock Mode or Manual Mode
➨Printing using Manual Mode: In Manual mode, set page properties using Edit button, margin between labels and printer according to your requirement. Print preview is also available to avoid printing mistakes.
➨ Printing using Pre Define Label Stock Mode: In case of Pre Define Label Stock Mode, choose Label Product with product number and select printer then click on “Print” button to start printing.
➨ Barcode label printing: Software support all types of Thermal Printer (for eg: Zebra TLP2844) to print multiple MICR 2D barcodes. You may print your created MICR 2D barcode Label Font sheet using Laser printer (for e.g.: HP LaserJet CP 1025). You may also choose other printer as per requirement. (for eg: Zebra TLP2844) is displayed in above screenshots.
➨Barcode Label Scanning Process: Now, your designed MICR barcode font label is ready to use. It can be scanned using any 2D barcode scanner.
